DIY Remedies for Acne Scars

Posted by Porcelana Staff on

Acne is one of those tricky afflictions that strikes twice: first when you have the original condition, and again if it leaves behind any scars. These marks can have a negative impact on your perception of yourself, or make you self-conscious about your skin...neither of which is a good thing! Thankfully, there are a lot of ways to address acne and the subsequent scars. We’ll focus on acne scars in this blog, and explore some different treatments available.

A lot of people like to try DIY (do-it-yourself) treatments for all sorts of issues: colds, fever, skin or hair problems, back pain, etc. Skin care is no different - depending on where you look, you’re likely to find a zillion different ways to improve your skin care routine or fix some small issue. Let’s take a look at some of the options out there for healing acne scars...and whether you’d want to try this for yourself or not.acne-scars.jpeg

Potato juice: Apparently you can cut raw potato slices and put them on your face, and the vitamins in the potato will help heal your skin. Of course, after seeing the residue left on a knife after cutting raw potatoes, I’m not sure I want that left on my face.

Baking soda: Yep, that box of sodium bicarbonate you keep in your fridge or under the bathroom sink can also be put on your face. It’s recommended to mix the baking soda with water and apply as a mask. Use this technique sparingly, though - too much can dry out your skin. Who knew - your household cleaning and baking products can also become part of your skin care routine!

Lemon juice and egg white: By mixing equal parts egg white and lemon juice, you come up with a liquid that might heal acne scars, but here’s the kicker: it needs to be left on overnight. For anyone that likes to sleep on their stomach (or flop around in bed), this can be seriously problematic and result in doing laundry a lot more often!

What are some ready-made solutions for treating acne scars?

While it’s nice if you have time to incorporate DIY projects into your grocery shopping and the time to create them, sometimes it’s preferable to find something that is effective, reasonably priced, and easy to use - with no added work on your part. Let me tell you a little about Porcelana’s Day and Night Skin Cream formulations, which have been proven effective at reducing the appearance of acne scars. These were created with moisturizing ingredients (take that, baking soda!), sunscreen is added to the day cream for added SPF protection, and the night formulation has avocado extract to nourish your skin. Basically, we’ve been able to combine the benefits of nature and science to help you reduce acne scars and improve skin health. Even better: our creams are available online and at major retailers, so you never have to worry about running out of the right ingredients!
